Luchadors, burlesque dancers and comedy. Since 2002, that is what Lucha VaVoom has been bringing to the table. We were lucky enough to attend the sold-out 2nd Annual Cinco de Mayan to witness this fantastic display of sexo y violencia. The wrestling is extremely entertaining and the hosts add good comedic commentary. It actually reminds me a bit of that SpikeTV show, MXC. As far as the burlesque part of the show, the fact that all the dance routines have a high possibility of turning into a striptease, gives me a warm feeling inside. The show returns to The Mayan theater in June so be sure to check out their site for ticket info. A special thank you to Angie for the invite, it was an awesome way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!
Got this custom GoodWood piece in last week and I have been dying to post it. First got word of GoodWood from Telli of Ninjasonik, when I asked about his three-finger ring. I liked the whole idea of the custom wood pieces, especially since I’m not a fan of too broke for “iced-out” necklaces.
This is 1 of 1 as of now, but we definitely plan to make a few more for the rest of TBC, hopefully exploring different wood colors and even some ring designs. A few more shots are posted up on Flickr.
Here are a few flicks from Saturday night’s after party celebrating the opening of the new МИШКА store in Echo Park. The after party was held at the Echoplex featuring performances by WAVVES, Best Coast, Andy Milonakis and 12th Planet. Special shouts and thanks to West from Rogue Status and his girl Mink for getting us in without any wait. Congrats to МИШКА on the new store located at 1547 Echo Park Ave! Be sure to check it out!
I had the honor and privilege of attending the Nike DJ AM/ DJ Premier Pack Launch Party in Los Angeles this past Saturday. The event was held at the Ricardo Montalbán theater. Now you probably know DJ AM (RIP) and DJ Premier, but do you know who Ricardo Montalbán is? Here let me refresh your memory. KHAAAAAAN!
Who would’ve thought that the coolest place to party on a Friday Night is in a museum? All “Night at the Museum” jokes aside, the Los Angeles Natural History Museum throws some of the coolest events every first Friday for the first six months out of the year. It’s truly a sight and scene to be experienced; dancing and drinking in the middle of a museum, while DJ lights bounce off dinosaur bones. These events are all ages running from 5:30pm – 10:00pm. They have dinner concessions and for the 21+ crowd, 3 bars. For music, two live bands usually perform in one hall, while DJs spin in another hall all night.
Better late than never. Here are a few pictures from our ice skating and holiday party we had just before the holidays. Had a great time ice skating downtown at Pershing Square. Afterward we had a drinks and food at The Must just around the corner.
Here is a video from the Ninjasonik show on January 7th, 2010 at “The Heist” in Downtown Los Angeles. Special thanks to Manny Santiago for filming and Mark Rodriquez for throwing an incredible party. Happy travels to Ninjasonik. Europe..you’re not ready!
“NINJA FUCKING SONIK. SONIK FUCKIN NINJAS!” was the chant coming from the crowd this past Thursday night at “The Heist” as NINJASONIK ripped the stage. Ninjasonik is Jah-Jah, Telli aka Bathroomsexxx, and DJ Teenwolf bringing together each of their own musical tastes, inspirations and skills. Ever since I saw their “Tight Pants” video, I was hooked on what Ninjasonik was bringing to the table. I downloaded all their mixes and free songs and watched all their videos, becoming more and more a fan of the style and energy that they brought with their music. I had to see them live! I’ll give you a little background on how I got to meet this incredibly humble and talented trio and was able to shoot photos for them on stage.
Better late than never I always say, so here’s a video from AGENDA that was held at the Huntington Beach Hyatt Resort in July 2009. This was my first time attending AGENDA and, from what I was told, this was one of the best due to the location and over all logistics of the trade show. AGENDA provided standard sized booths, which provided easy setup and a more unified look. Thanks to Jonathan at New Era, we were provided with VIP wristbands to an open bar sponsored by New Era. And of course, seeing all the usual suspects provided good times. Shouts to Dethkills, The Haunted Pangaean and LTd Productions.
Join thebadcharacter studios and friends this Saturday for a session of ice skating in Downtown LA. If you don’t know how to skate, here’s your perfect chance to learn. If you’re a Grinch and don’t want to ice skate with us, then come join us afterward for drinks and food at The Must which is located just around the corner from Pershing Square. All the details are on the flyer, if you need more info, visit Downtown on Ice or The Must. I better see you all there!
A couple weeks back we had the pleasure of attending Attack of the 2 Headed Monster, an art show held at Nomad in Los Angeles. The show displayed the art work of Maxx242 & Xpres, two amazing artists and also friends of ours. Over 70 pieces of work were on display, some which have never been seen before. An open bar sponsored by Patron helped to make an awesome night of friends, music and art. Thank you to all the familiar faces that came through to support the artists!
A friend called me recently asking if I could take some photos to help build her portfolio. I, being the gentleman that I am, was happy to lend a hand. Here’s just a few shots I pulled from the sets I shot with the Canon 50D on Monday. I used a couple studio lights indoors and didn’t do much in post except a few tone changes with Adobe Lightroom 2 (no airbrushing or anything). She asked that I try to keep the exposure of her tattoos to a minimum, which was a bit of a challenge since she had quite a few. But I was able to get a lot of great poses and we were both really happy with the outcome of the days work. Tough job, I know
Before I start, let me make a few things clear about this list. First, I excluded 2 of my favorite horror film, The Exorcist and The Shining. I figure if you haven’t seen either of those movies, then you don’t have the appreciation for good horror and probably should just skip this list all together. Second, this list is not ordered in any way and by all means, this is not the end all of horror movie lists. I picked these movies on 2 scare factors: Original scare and Repeat Scare. Original scare factor should be self-explanatory; its how scared you felt the first time you saw the film. Repeat scare is how well the movie rates on repeat viewings. There are movies that have the BOO! scare tactic that just doesn’t work upon viewing the movie for a second or third time.
Sometimes I really miss living in San Diego. The atmosphere in SD is so different from LA, even though they are only separated by a little over a 100 miles. I don’t mean the physical atmosphere either, though that is different also, and by different I mean better air quality. What I’m talking about it, is the care-free spirit that seems to embody most individuals in San Diego. I guess that was also one of the reasons I disliked it so much too. Go figure.
The purpose of our trip was to visit Overload skate shop in North Park, SD to represent The Wild Ones. If you don’t know, Overload has been doing a lot of great things for the skate community down in SD. Just check their blog. They held an event on the 11th featuring DJ Bella Loki, live in-store painting and drinks. The Famous skate team rolled by since they were in the area for ASR, as did our good friends from 9five eyewear.
Greg hooked up a sick dripping monogram logo for The Wild Ones, along with writing Overload & The Wild Ones above vinyl cut-outs of the bandit figure. Overall the event was really awesome, and it was great to meet the fans of the brand and hanging out with the Overload Skateshop family. If you’re in the North Park area of San Diego, stop by the Overload shop and tell’em thebadcharacter sent ya!
