Life’s a beach
Monday, April 5th, 2010House @ Eames
Monday, March 22nd, 2010I got a chance to check out the House Industries gallery exhibition at Eames office in Santa Monica. They were debuting the Eames typeface and had some three dimensional examples cut from Eames signature molded plywood. If you dont know about Eames you can check out their site. I was given the full history by a nice woman named Roz at Eames office.

Also on hand was Fresh Pressed doing live screen printing of the new typeface while The Mattson 2 kept things jazzy.

Wholetrain
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010On Monday night at the GOETHE INSTITUTE, Jimmy and I were lucky enough to attend the west coast premiere of Florian Gaag’s film WHOLETRAIN:

I have seen my share of “graffiti” related movies and they all tend to lack a certain realness. Most movies of that genre emphasize aspects of the culture that really don’t speak to real writers/bombers. Either they overload the main characters with hip hop super powers or they portray the act of graffiti in a unrealistic manner. WHOLETRAIN is as real as it gets yet still maintains a captivating story line.
After watching the film there was a short Q&A with writer and director Florian Gaag. We were able to talk briefly with him about what was next for the film and he assured us there would be a coming DVD release and possibly a larger premiere in the near future. He also mentioned possibly bringing the world famous MACLAIM crew to Los Angeles to collaborate with local artists in support of a larger west coast release.
We will be looking forward to seeing new things from Florian Gaag in the future or at least getting our hands on a DVD copy of Wholetrain.

Nike DJ AM / DJ Premier Pack Launch Party Los Angeles
Thursday, January 14th, 2010
I had the honor and privilege of attending the Nike DJ AM/ DJ Premier Pack Launch Party in Los Angeles this past Saturday. The event was held at the Ricardo Montalbán theater. Now you probably know DJ AM (RIP) and DJ Premier, but do you know who Ricardo Montalbán is? Here let me refresh your memory. KHAAAAAAN!
Opening Night – First Fridays At Los Angeles Natural History Museum
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
Who would’ve thought that the coolest place to party on a Friday Night is in a museum? All “Night at the Museum” jokes aside, the Los Angeles Natural History Museum throws some of the coolest events every first Friday for the first six months out of the year. It’s truly a sight and scene to be experienced; dancing and drinking in the middle of a museum, while DJ lights bounce off dinosaur bones. These events are all ages running from 5:30pm – 10:00pm. They have dinner concessions and for the 21+ crowd, 3 bars. For music, two live bands usually perform in one hall, while DJs spin in another hall all night.

Photos – Ninjasonik Live At “The Heist”
Saturday, January 9th, 2010
“NINJA FUCKING SONIK. SONIK FUCKIN NINJAS!” was the chant coming from the crowd this past Thursday night at “The Heist” as NINJASONIK ripped the stage. Ninjasonik is Jah-Jah, Telli aka Bathroomsexxx, and DJ Teenwolf bringing together each of their own musical tastes, inspirations and skills. Ever since I saw their “Tight Pants” video, I was hooked on what Ninjasonik was bringing to the table. I downloaded all their mixes and free songs and watched all their videos, becoming more and more a fan of the style and energy that they brought with their music. I had to see them live! I’ll give you a little background on how I got to meet this incredibly humble and talented trio and was able to shoot photos for them on stage.
AGENDA Trade Show 2009 – Huntington Beach
Monday, December 21st, 2009Better late than never I always say, so here’s a video from AGENDA that was held at the Huntington Beach Hyatt Resort in July 2009. This was my first time attending AGENDA and, from what I was told, this was one of the best due to the location and over all logistics of the trade show. AGENDA provided standard sized booths, which provided easy setup and a more unified look. Thanks to Jonathan at New Era, we were provided with VIP wristbands to an open bar sponsored by New Era. And of course, seeing all the usual suspects provided good times. Shouts to Dethkills, The Haunted Pangaean and LTd Productions.
Balls To The Wall
Thursday, December 17th, 2009Got a chance to check out the “Balls To The Wall” show in DTLA last night and was not disappointed. The show features new paintings by my good friend MIDZT, as well as a number of black and white polaroids by KalfLife. Equally impressive was the crowd that turned out for the party/opening. It was good to see so many friends in one spot. For those of you who couldn’t make it out I have posted photos from the night on the TBC flickr.
Here are some gems from the party:

Recap: Attack Of The 2 Headed Monster Art Show
Sunday, December 6th, 2009
A couple weeks back we had the pleasure of attending Attack of the 2 Headed Monster, an art show held at Nomad in Los Angeles. The show displayed the art work of Maxx242 & Xpres, two amazing artists and also friends of ours. Over 70 pieces of work were on display, some which have never been seen before. An open bar sponsored by Patron helped to make an awesome night of friends, music and art. Thank you to all the familiar faces that came through to support the artists!

Pictures of the Year In High Resolution
Sunday, October 25th, 2009
Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles honors the work of award-winning photojournalists and visual editors from Pictures of the Year International in an exhibit on display from July 11th through Nov 1st, 2009.
The exhibit is said “to inform and inspire the public by connecting photographers, social consciousness, and the human experience through powerful imagery and stories”.
The imagery is uniquely compelling, and sure to leave a lasting impression on any viewer. I have friends who have already attended and have said, “It was absolutely AMAZING! Inspiring and eye opening, I recommend it to anyone who cares about the human condition. Trust me GO, it changes your outlook on life!”
I’ll be there this weekend. Cheers.
