Greg and I spent most of our free time last week downtown at Andy’s studio, watching the progression of a piece that both Andy and James were collaborating on. The piece was for a show titled “State of the Art” which opened and held at Ek5obition Gallery last weekend at Pomona’s Artwalk. It’s a one of kind experience watching these two ‘work’; Mini electric dirt bikes, night-time LED laden photo shoots, random visits from friends and even a lucha libre show next door all came together to make quite the creative environment. The piece itself is actually 15 different canvas’ that were placed together to create on large canvas.

Be sure to check out the Flickr to see more behind the scene photos and if you were not able to make it out to the show last Saturday, here is a link to Ek5obition’s Flickr that shows the finished product.

We rolled out to Venice on Saturday night for the Rogue Status x SYRV benefit art show. Saw some nice stuff inside and outside of the store. Check out the photos on thebadcharacter flickr.

Thanks to our friends at Rogue Status for taking care of us, as always it was quite a party.

Monday, March 22nd, 2010I got a chance to check out the House Industries gallery exhibition at Eames office in Santa Monica. They were debuting the Eames typeface and had some three dimensional examples cut from Eames signature molded plywood. If you dont know about Eames you can check out their site. I was given the full history by a nice woman named Roz at Eames office.

Also on hand was Fresh Pressed doing live screen printing of the new typeface while The Mattson 2 kept things jazzy.

Thursday, December 17th, 2009Got a chance to check out the “Balls To The Wall” show in DTLA last night and was not disappointed. The show features new paintings by my good friend MIDZT, as well as a number of black and white polaroids by KalfLife. Equally impressive was the crowd that turned out for the party/opening. It was good to see so many friends in one spot. For those of you who couldn’t make it out I have posted photos from the night on the TBC flickr.
Here are some gems from the party:

A couple weeks back we had the pleasure of attending Attack of the 2 Headed Monster, an art show held at Nomad in Los Angeles. The show displayed the art work of Maxx242 & Xpres, two amazing artists and also friends of ours. Over 70 pieces of work were on display, some which have never been seen before. An open bar sponsored by Patron helped to make an awesome night of friends, music and art. Thank you to all the familiar faces that came through to support the artists!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009We cruised down to art-walk the other day to check out a few different shows that were going on downtown. First we stopped at ROWAN to see paintings and photography from TANK BREK and ZES. ZESER’s photos were amazing, offering a candid view of Los Angeles most people never get to see. From there we made our way over to LAST LAUGH where PATRICK MARTINEZ was having an opening for his show “You don’t have to lie to kick it”. The paintings were incredible as usual and he had a few neon signs that were comedy. I posted the rest of the pics on the TBC FLICKR. Here are a few i picked out:

Monday, August 31st, 2009Before heading out to Vegas for MAGIC, we stopped by the annual Sea No Evil art show held at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium. Over 60 art pieces were donated from such notable artists as Jeff Soto, Shepard Fairey, RETNA, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Jon Chase, and Maxx242. It’s always great to see the work of great artists, especially when you know them personally and have seen their work evolve. They held a silent auction for these pieces, with all proceeds benefiting the Sea Shepard Conservation Society. Captain Paul Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and focus of the Animal Planet’s popular series “Whale Wars” was the featured speaker giving an update on the state of affairs in the Oceans of the world. Shepard Fairey spun a set as the featured DJ of the night. Overall it was a great turn out and lots of fun. Can’t wait for next year.
